Opened in August 2024, the RTGEMART Faceting Academy is a one-of-a-kind gem-cutting school offering a wide range of immersive, hands-on courses for beginners and experienced cutters alike.
From September 2024, we’ve expanded our programs and upgraded our facilities to provide an even more complete learning experience. All courses are held on-site at our newly renovated Academy, and tuition includes full-board accommodation.
Courses are available in both English and Italian.
Your only responsibility is booking your flight to Bologna, Italy — we’ll take care of everything else, including airport transfers.
In addition to the beginner and advanced cutting courses, which will last 10 days each, there will be some workshops for those who want to delve deeper into certain topics such as: professional gem photography, re-cutting out badly cut precious stones, creating hybrid gems, and much more.

BEGINNER COURSE — 10 DaysThis course is designed for complete beginners. No prior experience or knowledge is required.
You’ll start with essential concepts in optics and physics, along with practical gemological tips that will help you confidently identify and purchase rough stones — both online and in-person — while avoiding scams and low-quality material.
Thanks to a set of exclusive techniques developed by master cutter Ramon Tesoro, you’ll be able to cut perfectly faceted gems within just 10 days.
What’s Included:
A personal ULTRA TEC V5 digital faceting machine (the best on the market)
All necessary tools and materials
Printed training manuals
Step-by-step instruction for every stage of the cutting process
2 to 4 gemstones personally cut by you
2 half-days of recreational activities (you choose from guided tours, cooking classes, and more)
Unlike traditional courses, we explain not only what to do and how, but also why. This approach helps students understand, remember, and creatively apply what they learn.
At the end of the course, you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion, and you'll have the option to order your own Ultra Tec machine directly through us at factory prices (we are official representatives).
ADVANCED COURSE — 10 Days (Custom Program)
This course is tailored for those who already have basic experience with gem-cutting and want to refine their technique.
We start with a 1-on-1 interview to assess your current skills, challenges, and goals. Based on that, we customize your training to focus on areas where you’ll get the most value.
Core Topics:
Cutting and polishing hard materials (Mohs hardness 8–9)
How to achieve perfect meet points
Understanding and using polishing discs effectively
Troubleshooting issues throughout the cutting process
Introduction to Gem Cut Studio (cutting diagram software)
Basics of gem photography and video — capturing your work with the right lighting
Like the beginner course, the advanced course includes 2 half-days of recreational activities and ends with a Certificate of Completion.

OUR LOCATION 
The Academy is located 400 meters above sea level, inside the Bolognese Gypsum Regional Park — now recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’re just:
19 km (12 miles) from Bologna city center
24 km (15 miles) from Bologna International Airport
The school is surrounded by 5 hectares of private forest, rich in biodiversity and natural beauty. The 450 m² historic building was fully renovated in June 2024 to provide a clean, comfortable, and inspiring learning environment.

Meet Your Instructor: Ramon Tesoro Founder of RTGEMART Academy
Born in Ischia, Italy – 1972
Degree in Biology – 1996
Ramon began his career in virology research, later moving into photography, where he founded a professional studio and taught advanced photography and makeup artistry.
In 2011, he opened an artisanal shop featuring handcrafted objects made from wood and stone.
A self-taught gem cutter since 2018, Ramon has cut over 3,200 gemstones to date and developed the ULTRA PRECISION CUT method — a unique, high-accuracy technique that he now teaches exclusively at the Academy.

To reserve a spot we ask for a deposit of 850€ plus tax (that will be detracted by the tuition fee)
The balance is due only 2 weeks before the course starts
